This role requires you to undertake all activities associated with companion referral including joining and leaving the community and individual support of companions whilst at the community. To work as part of the support team to provide outcome-based support to companions, leading on training and development of companions to prepare them for employability. To promote companion's wellbeing, independence and life chances through encouragement and empowerment.
- Provide structured support for individual companions as outlined in the agreed support plans.
- Perform assigned tasks to support the smooth running of the community and companion accommodation, assist companions to maintain their licence agreement and to adhere to the house rules, conduct breath testing of companion drivers, driver's mates and companions, as well as regular community drug testing.
- Ensure companions' hygiene and health is maintained at all times.
- Foster cooperation and a sense of community between companions.
- Participate in the support team rota to provide face-to-face support to companion's 7 days a week.
- Attend community homes, shops or events to aid companion development and wellbeing.
- Participate in the emergency on-call rota to provide 24/7 support to companions.
- Take part in any appropriate investigations or actions resulting from the breech of rules by companions.
- Support and assist companions who want to move on into waged employment or retirement.
- Explore and develop employment opportunities in the wider community.
- Advise companions on training and employment opportunities and related welfare benefits.
- Assist companions to obtain independent housing and an understanding of household budgeting.
What you will need:
- Understanding of homelessness, housing and social exclusion
- Understanding of drug, alcohol and mental health issues
- Ability to promote the wellbeing of vulnerable people
- Good knowledge of local resources and network of local contracts
- Knowledge of housing benefit or Universal Credit
- Knowledge of current Welfare reform
- Understanding of societal issues and causes of deprivation
- Ability to work in a flexible way to provide the maximum weekly impact
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Effective listening
